Airline passengers arriving at the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway airport now have more options for ground transportation.

Officials with the airport said facility rules have recently been updated to allow ride sharing companies such as Uber and Lyft to operate at the passenger terminal.

The move was a response to “strong consumer demand” for the services, said Ryan Smith, an airport spokesman.

"We saw that customers were using Uber and Lyft although it wasn’t officially supported or available here at the airport," Smith said. "So in our conversations with those companies it was a service we wanted to provide."

The ridesharing companies join taxicabs, limousines and car rental services as authorized ground transportation.
