Tom Horne Requests Temporary Restraining Order Against County Attorney's Office

July 30, 2014

Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne is asking for a temporary restraining order to keep the Maricopa County Attorney's Office from investigating allegations of campaign mismanagement.

Phoenix TV station KPHO reports documents filed Monday show the county Attorney's Office is engaged in a criminal investigation of Horne.

The probe reportedly deals with claims by a former campaign staffer who says she was instructed to work on campaign-related work on state-paid time.

Horne's injunction requests a different agency be put in charge of an investigation because he believes the county Attorney's Office won't act impartially.

Horne calls Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery "my political enemy."

After a judge is assigned, Horne's lawyer says Montgomery's office will have five days to respond and a hearing will likely be held within 10 days.
