May 22, 2013

New numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau released Wednesday show that cities in the Southwest are the fastest growing in the country. Most of those fast growing cities are in Texas, but two Arizona cities made the list. Eight of the top 15 cities with the fastest growth rates are in Texas. Buckeye, Ariz. had the ninth fastest growth rate from July 2011 to July 2012. The west Valley city grew by a little over 4 percent bringing its population to a little more than 54,000 people.

Phoenix saw the sixth largest numeric increase in the country during that time period. The population grew by a little more than 24,000. As of July last year, there were just under 1.5 million people living in Phoenix.

New York City is still the largest in the country with more than 8 million people. It was the only city in the top 15 that was outside of the South or the West.
