Arizona's unemployment rate stayed the same in April

May 17, 2013

Arizona's unemployment rate remained at 7.9 percent for the third consecutive month in April.  Department of Administration economist Aruna Murthy said while there were month-to-month job gains, they become less impressive compared to the post-recession years of 2010 to 2012.

"The private sector gained 4,200 jobs, the ten-year average is 3,600 jobs.  Again, private sector did better than the 10-year average butdid poorly when it comes to the post-recession average," Murthy said.

Murthy said six of the state's 11 economic sectors added jobs in April, while four reported losses and one was flat.  The professional and business services sector had the biggest gain, adding 3,100 jobs.
