Temperatures to hit the century mark thanks to heat wave
The first triple-digit temperatures of the year may arrive as early as Monday.
A high-pressure system started moving across the Southwestern United States over the weekend, and National Weather Service Meteorologist Valerie Meyers said it is going to stick around for a few more days. That means daytime temperatures will flirt with the century mark for the first time in 2013. Meyers said this heat wave is pretty much right on schedule.
"The 30 year climatological record reflects that May 2 is the average day we hit 100 degrees for the first time," Meyers said.
That number has been creeping forward in recent years. If you take the entire climate record for the area dating back to 1896, the average first day for 100 degrees is May 14.
