At one of the harshest federal prisons in the country, inmates are left with their wrists and ankles cuffed for hours, days and sometimes weeks at a time. The prison says it's a safety issue. Inmates say it's punishment.
Cliff Jumper Drowns At Saguaro Lake
A Scottsdale man has drowned at Saguaro Lake. Officer Chris Hegstrom of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office says the 42-year-old man climbed a cliff near Sandy Beach and jumped into the water below.
“As he was jumping he did what appeared to be either a front somersault, a front flip, something of that nature. Ah, when he hit the water though he landed on his back," Hegstrom said.
Witnesses say the man resurfaced briefly, before going under the water again. Bystanders unsuccessfully attempted to save him. Deputies located the man’s body about an hour later.
