San Juan Fire Grows To 10 Square Miles
SHOW LOW, Ariz. — A wildfire in eastern Arizona's White Mountains continues to grow in size as firefighters conduct burnout operations within the fire perimeter.
Fire officials say the San Juan Fire Fire located 18 miles southeast of Show Low had grown to 10 square miles by Monday night, up from 9 square miles earlier in the day.
Firefighters are continuing burnout operations on the fire's western flank to deprive the fire of fuel and to keep it from spreading outside the planned containment lines. They're also mopping up hot spots elsewhere.
Containment remained at 5 percent as of Monday night.
Nearly 700 personnel are assigned to the fire, which is burning on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation and the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests.
