Security increase planned for Pat's Run

April 16, 2013

Police in Tempe say security will be beefed up for this weekend's Pat's Run following the bombings at the Boston Marathon.

Sergeant Michael Pooley says everybody is troubled by what happened and they don't want a repeat at the event named for former ASU and Arizona Cardinals football star Pat Tillman.

“It’s a very, very large event. It is a difficult thing to plan for especially after what happened in Boston. It’s just one of those things we are taking very seriously,” Pooley said.

Pooley says they're still putting the final plan together, but protecting 30,000 to 38,000 runners and those who will come to watch them is a difficult task.
