More Than 60 Arrests In Statewide Prostitution Sting
The FBI says a crackdown on popular spots for prostitution activity has led to more than 60 arrests.
Special Agent Doug Price says the statewide sting was part of the nationwide effort Operation Cross Country, which was an effort to remove minors from a life of prostitution while holding those exploiting them criminally responsible.
The Arizona operation targeted places like truck stops, casinos and online escort services from Phoenix to Yuma.
Price says in addition to busting 21 pimps and 41 johns, authorities found five children and 42 adults who were being exploited for prostitution. He says they’ll be offered victim services.
Price says the initiative was an effort to reduce the demand and arrest and prosecute those who are exploiting women and children.
The Phoenix and Yuma police departments took part in the sweep, as did the state Department of Public Safety.
