The cost for students to play high school sports in Lake Havasu could be slashed in half if a bond and override pass in November, according to Today’s News-Herald.

The local newspaper reports that high school athletic programs cost about $500,000 dollars a year, and parents of student-athletes pay $800 per child.

But the price tag could drop to $400 if voters approve a roughly $50 million dollar bond proposal and a 15 percent override.

The money would also be used for teacher salaries and health benefits, school maintenance, technology and transportation.

Shortly after Proposition 123 passed in May, officials with Lake Havasu School District No. 1 said they would need voters’ help again in November, or face the possiblity of closing an elementary school.
