Local 9/11 Memorial Events

Many events are scheduled around the valley to commorate the 10th Anniverary of the 9/11 attacks.  A listing of those events can be found here.

Never Forget 9/11 Memorial Walk -- 7am at the Chase Bank Tower (201 N. Central Avenue) with a walk to Central & Jefferson at CityScape.  Then a Memorial Event wil be held at CityScape with Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon and the City Council starting at 8am.  The event is free -- for futher details phoenix.gov/fire For details

Day of Remeberance - 1pm reading of 9/11 victims' names at the Scottsdale Center for the Preforming Arts atrium and a candlelight vigil at 6pm with speakers and music in the center's Virginia G. Piper Theatre.  The event is free -- for further details scottsdaleaz.gov -- Location:  7380 E. Second Street in Scottsdale.

Healing Field Tribute - Flags paying tribute to 9/11 victims. Readings of the names of the first responders who died in the attacks will begin at 5:46am at Tempe Beach Park (Mill Avenue and Rio Salado Parkway) -- later in the morning and into the afternoon, the public is invited to join in the reading of all the victims' names.  A candlelight vigil is planned for 7pm.  Flags will be on display from 5am to 11pm.  The event is free -- for futher details tempe.gov/events/healingfield

9/11 Tribute in Chandler - Chandler Mayor Jay Tibshreny will be the keynote speaker at 7pm.  The Chandler Fire Department, honor guard and pipes & drums will participate at the American Legion Post #35 (2240 W. Chandler Blvd).  The event is free.

9/11 Tribute in Surprise - The Surprise Fire and Police departmetns will pay tribute to public-safety officials who died in the 9/11 attacks at the Circular drive East of City Hall (16000 N. Civic Center Plaza). A memorial made from steel from one of the World Trade Center towers will be unveiled at 8:30am.  A procession with an honor guard and bell ringing is planned.  The event is free - for futher details surpriseaz.gov

9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance - The City of Mesa is participating in 10th Anniversary Tribute Projects with a playground build next to Fire Station 218, 845 N. Alma School Rd.  Volunteers are helping to build a playground, distribute fire safety information and paint curb numbers.  For photos from Mayor Smith's Twitter feed, click HERE.
