Federal budget policy is extremely complicated. The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania recently introduced the Penn Wharton Budget Model. It gives all of us the chance to see how a number of floated policies—at this point focused on Social Security and immigration—would affect the federal budget and then, presumably, our own budgets.

Professor Kent Smetters is the leader of the budget model and talked with us about it.
