Airport restaurant fire causes scare

March 11, 2013

A small restaurant fire in Sky Harbor's Terminal Four Sunday forced the evacuation of about 50 people from the food court area. Phoenix Fire spokesman Tony Mure says they fought the blaze at Chelsea's Kitchen.

“In this particular situation we have hoses that we can carry in with us and connect to various risers or stand pipes that are built and distributed throughout the terminal,” Mure said.

In this case, he says a restaurant employee had a handle on the blaze before fire crews arrived. The restaurant still may be closed a few days, since crews had to tear apart the hood system above the grill, to make sure the fire had not spread. Mure says the fire's cause may have been a grease fire that got out of hand, but that an investigation is underway.
