The acting Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Sloan Gibson, held his first meeting with veterans groups Wednesday morning. He used the time to announce how he plans to respond to the Inspector General’s interim report.

A trip to the Phoenix VA medical center is one of the immediate actions Gibson will be taking in response to the VA inspector general's report on the medical facility. Gibson also announced that the VA has reached out to each of the veterans who were listed in that interim report.

Joe Davis is with the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He said the trip to Phoenix is a good first step.

"It’s a good first start for the acting secretary to get down there to talk with the employees and talk to the employees behind closed doors," said Davis. "Because right now there’s not a lot of trust in the VA system because of the way it operates and the culture."

Davis also revealed that Gibson shared additional information during the meeting detailing the extent of the corruption within the entire VA.
