Work Underway On New Home For New Child Welfare Agency
Now that lawmakers have officially created the new Department of Child Safety, work is underway to establish a permanent home for the agency.
State Rep. Kate Brophy McGee, who helped lead the CPS overhaul, says workers will be housed in two existing buildings across the street from their former office inside the Department of Economic Safety.
"It is absolutely critical in my mind that this new agency have their own space to connote that separation. This separation I think is critical to the success of the agency going forward," Brophy McGee said.
Brophy McGee says workers need to renovate the decades-old buildings, including electrical repairs and removing asbestos. No word yet when that work will be finished.
