Teens trapped for two hours over frozen lake

January 03, 2013

Emergency crews had to make a rescue from an eastern Arizona lake yesterday.

Two teenagers were out on Fool Hollow Lake late Wednesday, on the north edge of the city of Show Low. The lake’s frozen over, but the ice underneath them began to crack.

The two grabbed onto a dead tree. Show Low Fire District Captain Brent Mix says the teens spent two hours hanging onto the tree until they were rescued.

A third teen had stayed on the snowbank next to the lake and was able to go for help. Twenty-five emergency personnel from several different agencies responded. The teens were treated at a hospital for mild hypothermia.
