The Arizona Board of Regents has approved fee and tuition increases for Arizona’s public universities. The average tuition increase is 2.9 percent, down from last year’s 3.7-percent increase.

At Northern Arizona University most students will see no increase in tuition because of their enrollment in the Pledge program. The university promises participants the same tuition rates each year.

At the University of Arizona, 78 percent of undergraduates are in a similar tuition guarantee program and will also see no increase. However, newly enrolled students will have to pay the higher tuition rates approved by the Arizona Board of Regents.

In addition to an increase in tuition, Arizona State University resident undergraduates will continue to pay a surcharge. The extra fee was reduced from $320 to $270.

Last year, budget cuts reduced state spending on public universities by $99 million.
