Tuesday night, Glendale City Council approved an agreement to spend $15,000 to accommodate expected parking problems this Saturday.

The Arizona Coyotes have a game at noon and the Arizona Cardinals have a playoff game the same evening.

The city is obligated to provide 5,500 spots for the arena and 11,000 parking spots for the stadium. Last year, Glendale paid $22 million to buy almost 100 acres of land near the stadium for more parking space, but that land isn’t ready yet, according to assistant city manager Jennifer Campbell.

“There’s a lot that has to go into making that available for parking, and we will currently be working on that within the next couple months, but unfortunately it’s not suitable for parking at this time,” Campbell said.

So, the city turned to a privately-owned lot suitable for parking.

"For the Cardinal’s playoff game we have a dual event," Campbell said. "Our first priority is to provide parking for the arena and second for the stadium, so we had to find what we call replacement parking.”

Campbell said the city hopes to have the $22 million lot developed in time for next NFL season.
