FEMA Prepares For Wet El Niño Winter In Arizona, Western States

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is letting western states—including Arizona—know about how it’s planning to respond to the potentially destructive impact of El Niño.

Flooding and landslides are two of the major concerns as forecasters anticipate a wetter-than-normal winter. Aprille Slutsky, a public information officer for the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs, spoke about the impact.

What kind of El Niño are forecasters expecting? Ken Waters, warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Phoenix, spoke about what he is looking for.
