Incidents Of Lasers Pointed At Airplanes Common In Phoenix Area

On Tuesday, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed four aircraft approaching Deer Valley Airport in north Phoenix were hit by green lasers. No injuries were reported, but laser strikes are a common occurrence in the Valley.

When a laser is pointed at an aircraft’s cockpit, it can temporarily blind a pilot. That’s a serious problem for everyone onboard. Unfortunately aircraft across the country are dealing with this dangerous issue almost daily.

According to the FAA, from Jan. 1 through Oct. 16, there were more than 5,300 laser strikes reported across the country. Nearly 200 of those were here in the metro Phoenix area. That figure does not include the two incidents last month near Sky Harbor and Tuesday’s strikes at Deer Valley Airport.
