Inspection finds mall kiosks not always showing prices

September 08, 2012

A series of recent inspections found kiosks in malls throughout the Valley did not list the prices of the items they were selling. Inspectors from the Arizona Department of Weights and Measures checked out 52 kiosks between July and August. Of those, less than 60 percent listed the proper price on their merchandise, which is required by state law.

The checks were done at 10 kiosks at Christown Spectrum Mall, 19 at Scottsdale Fashion Square, eleven at Superstition Springs Mall and 12 at Desert Sky Mall. All told, 29 of the kiosks passed inspection.

In a statement, the Director of Compliance at the Department of Weights and Measures said not having a price listed on merchandise is not an option…and that the retailers need to re-visit their self-scanning and pricing programs.
