A driver involved in a high speed chase that started on Interstate 17 north of Phoenix is in custody. Carrick Cook of the Department of Public Safety said the first reports were of a vehicle driving erratically around Table Mesa Road, but he was not stopped until he crashed in northwest Phoenix.

“Some people in their desperation don’t care about other people’s lives, whereas our job is to care about other people’s lives, so in this circumstance we were fortunate enough to have the Phoenix police department’s help with their air unit,” Cook said.

He says the suspect took off on foot, after the crash, but was tackled by a DPS officer, a short time later. The suspect faces reckless driving, felony flight, and aggravated assault charges.
