Sinema wins Democratic nod in the 9th District

August 29, 2012

Former state senator Kyrsten Sinema emerged from a three-way primary in the new 9th Congressional District, defeating David Schapira and Andrei Cherny. She credits her win to her campaign’s focus on middle-class families … and isn’t concerned about the sometimes testy primary carrying over to the general election.

KYRSTEN SINEMA: This was a hard-fought primary, it was difficult, there was definitely some negative attacks, and we expect more of those in the general election. But we’ll do what we’ve always done, which is stay focused on the families of Congressional District 9, and we’ll work hard over the next ten weeks to earn their support, as well.

The 9th District is considered a competitive one. On the Republican side, Vernon Parker won his party’s nomination in a seven-way GOP primary.
