The David and Gladys Wright House in Phoenix’s Arcadia neighborhood has received a lot of attention when it comes to historic preservation.

But North Central Phoenix has its own interesting attraction on the path to preservation. Located near 3rd Avenue and Northern, it’s known as the “Rock House.”

We spoke to John Spellman, who has lived in the house since 1970. He explained what it looks like and how it picked up the nickname.
