Downtown Phoenix traffic may soon be changing. At a public meeting Thursday night, city staff will present proposed changes to some Phoenix streets.

One of the changes is changing Third and Fifth avenues from Washington Street to McDowell Road from one-way to two-way streets. Another change is adding bike lanes on Roosevelt Street from Seventh Avenue to Central.

Mark Melnychenko with the city of Phoenix said that the community is an important factor on any changes.

“What we don’t want is to implement something that the community is not in favor of,"  Melnychenko said. "So we’re hoping to get consensus on an alternative that’s best for all users.”

The proposed changes come from a 2013-14 study on Phoenix roads, and the project aims to increase motorist safety on the road.
