Monday Brush Fire Burns 5 Acres Near Sahuaro Lake

February 18, 2014

A brush fire near Saguaro Lake Monday may have been a preview of things to come in Arizona.  The human-caused blaze spread quickly, scorching about five acres before Rural Metro firefighters were able to contain it. Spokesman Colin Williams says fire conditions are dry now and likely to only get worse.

“The grasses are drying,” Williams said. “It’s going to be so volatile. Even if we get rain now, it’s still going to create a hazardous season because everything is going to be so dry.”

Williams says it’s unclear what ignited the fire, except that it was definitely human-caused.
