The Arizona Game and Fish Department said they feared the worst when they noticed one of the ewes recently relocated to the Santa Catalina Mountains near Tucson had not moved in a while, but spokesman Mark Hart said that was not the case.

“The field researcher who observed the lamb was checking on a mortality signal from the ewe, she hadn’t moved in a while and we feared that she might be dead, and instead we had two where we had one before," said Hart.

Hart said two of the relocated ewes have given birth in recent days, and he said they are furthering the goal of 100 bighorn sheep in the Catalinas within three years. Thirty-one sheep were relocated in November, but 10 have since died.
