PHOENIX — Maybe the Arizona Diamondbacks should have had rain poncho night at Chase Field.

A strong thunderstorm moved through downtown Phoenix Monday night, sending rain pouring through the stadium's closed roof during the first inning of a game between the Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres.

Fans in two sections behind home plate quickly scrambled to get out of the way as rain soaked them and an area of about 100 seats. The lights also flickered twice from lightning.

The rain began to taper off by the second inning, though runoff continued to pour down in one spot. Fans cheered when video of the rain outside was shown during the inning.

Chase Field has leaked before, though usually not as much as Monday night. It did not affect the game.
