Voters to consider change to state's primary elections
The signatures are in. Arizona voters will consider a major change to the way the state holds its primary elections. KJZZ’s Peter O’Dowd reports
Thursday was the deadline to get the primary initiative on November’s ballot. More than 300,000 people signed the petition. Now, voters will consider the measure, which allows any voter – from any party – to vote for any primary election candidate. Plus, the two candidates who get the most votes in the primary would advance to the general election regardless of what party they belong to. Supporters say the move is necessary to increase the competition in state elections that have become increasingly polarized by either political party.
