Three people are hospitalized after the crash of a small plane Tuesday, near the Deer Valley Airport. The three are from TransPac Aviation Academy and were aboard a single-engine Piper PA 28, when it went down. Police Sergeant Tommy Thompson says the aircraft was destroyed.

“The damage, I mean, it looks like a total loss,” Thompson. “It caught fire at some point and it appears to be a total loss.”

The plane apparently lost power while the pilot was practicing touch-and-go landings. Thompson says the plane avoided hitting any buildings when it went down on the edge of the airport.
