According to Miles Davis and Kenny Clark, guitarist Charlie Christian was the originator of bebop who influenced Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. His phrasing and improvisation were way ahead of their time. After he was discoverd by John Hammond, he recorded with Benny Goodman and Lionel Hampton for only two years before he died of Tuberculoses at the age of 25. Joe Beck was the first guitarist to work with Miles Davis and the first hard core jazz artist to find his way into Rock through Jazz fusion. He wrote jingles for TV and arranged shows for Frank Sinatra and Esther Phillips. After 1997 he played mainly with his own duos and trios before he died at 62 of lung cancer.
