The state Supreme Court approved Cook’s execution for Aug. 8. Cook was sentenced to death for the torture, rape and murder of a Guatemalan immigrant and a teenage boy from Mohave County in 1987. The U.S. Supreme Court had put his execution on hold last year, citing possible ineffective representation during trial. Another death row inmate, Samuel V. Lopez, will be executed in two weeks.
