City Of Maricopa Courts Now Under Supervision
The Arizona Supreme Court has ordered a Pinal County judge to oversee local courts in the city of Maricopa.
The order comes after an audit found the town courts had not been making deposits of fines and other payments.
Under the high court's order, Presiding Superior Court Judge Stephen McCarville will oversee daily operations and be responsible for all records.
A Supreme Court spokeswoman says it is not yet known whether any illegal activity occurred. But, the state Treasurer’s Office says it did not receive money from the courts for multiple months in 2012 and ’13.
A city spokesman says the investigation was requested after it noticed a discrepancy in the court’s finances.
