Man Who Shot At Tribal Police Officer In Custody

January 13, 2014

GLOBE, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities have arrested a 30-year-old man accused of shooting at a tribal police officer during a highway traffic stop in eastern Arizona.

San Carlos Tribal Police Chief Alejandro Benally said Christopher Delmar was taken into custody at about 1:20 p.m. on Sunday but declined to reveal how he was apprehended. Benally said officers responding to a disturbance early Sunday saw a car going in the opposite direction. They said the vehicle matched the description of one involved in the disturbance. Benally said Delmar led officers on a high speed chase onto the US-70, southeast of the city of Globe.

Authorities said Delmar came to a stop in the desert and fired at an officer as he was getting out of his vehicle. The officer returned fire, but nobody was injured.
