Photo Nick BlumbergSenior Field Correspondent Nick Blumberg joined KJZZ in 2010. His reports can often be heard during KJZZ’s Morning Edition and on newscasts throughout the day. He also serves as an on-air host and in key roles behind-the-scenes.

Blumberg covers a wide variety of topics, including (but not limited to) politics, health care, immigration, and local government.

He’s filed stories for the BBC World Service and NPR’s newscast unit, and appeared as a guest on WNYC’s The Takeaway, KNPR’s State of Nevada, and KJZZ’s Here and Now.

Blumberg covered the race for Maricopa County Sheriff throughout the 2012 election season. Other high-profile news stories he’s worked on include the Obama administration’s new deportation policy, the aftermath of the Tucson shooting that injured former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, and the devastating Wallow Fire of 2011.

He also covers lighter fare -- like a piece about Salt River Project crews herding and catching some very squirmy fish before draining and cleaning the SRP canal system.

Blumberg began his career with KJZZ as an associate producer for the local edition of Here and Now. He transitioned into the post of Public Insight Journalist -- engaging with the community and recruiting sources for KJZZ and Fronteras: The Changing America Desk as part the Public Insight Network project.

Blumberg was part of the team that won an APTRA and a 2011 regional Edward R. Murrow award for SB 1070 coverage. He was nominated for a Rocky Mountain Emmy for the documentary The Keepers, which he co-produced during his senior year at Arizona State University.

Blumberg is a magna cum laude graduate of ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. He previously worked for Futuro Media Group, producers of NPR's Latino USA, and Arizona Horizon, the long-running public affairs show on Eight, Arizona PBS.

When he’s away from his desk in the newsroom, Blumberg spends much of his time trying to make a rambunctious puppy behave.
