Dispute In Tempe Mall's Lot Escalates To Shooting
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities said a dispute in a Tempe mall's parking lot escalated into a shooting that left one woman with a minor injury.
Police Spokesman Michael Pooley said the shooting in the Arizona Mills mall lot around 6 p.m. on Saturday started out as a dispute between 20-year-old Voyee Smith and other males described as being in their late teens or early 20s. Pooley said Smith and another person began exchanging gunfire at a time when the lot was nearly full.
A bullet grazed one of the arms of Smith's girlfriend. She refused to be taken to a hospital. No other injuries were reported.
The shooting's cause is under investigation. The other suspects have not been located.
Smith was taken into custody. It is unclear whether Smith has an attorney.
