LAS VEGAS — Firefighters doused a wildfire off a southern Nevada desert highway after a fiery fatal crash of a single-engine airplane bound from Laughlin-Bullhead International Airport to Phoenix Goodyear Airport.

Deputy Clark County Fire Chief Jeff Buchanan said Monday the wildfire was extinguished near where the aircraft crashed and burned about 6 p.m. Sunday on Needles Highway near Laughlin.

Buchanan says there were four people aboard.

One died in the wreckage. Three others were hospitalized, including at least two with burn injuries.

The names of the dead and injured weren't immediately made public.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor in California says the aircraft was a four-seat Rockwell Commander.

He said the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
