Valley Metro has settled a dispute with a local retail company over placing sexually suggestive ads on the light rail.

The compromise with My Sister’s Closet, a high-end consignment retailer, came after Valley Metro had pulled one of the company's four ads, which featured a boot and the phrase “Make A Booty Call.”

In response, the company’s CEO, Ann Siner, came up with an alternative and threatened to scrap the entire $60,000 campaign, unless it was approved.

She said the new ad reads, "'Get Tied Up' with a picture of a men’s tie … it’s sort of a play off of 'Fifty Shades Of Gray.'"

Siner said the company has been running these innuendo-based ads on Phoenix buses for years. One example: “Wanted: One Night Stand” next to the picture of a bedside table. She wasn’t sure initially if this new ad would be any more palatable to transportation officials, but Valley Metro spokesperson Susan Tierney said they've approved the new ad.

“With the submittal of the ad ‘Get Tied Up,’ which features a necktie image, all four of the advertising messages have more than one interpretation, leaving the meaning of the ads up to the viewer," said Tierney.

The ads could be on the light rail within just a few weeks.
