Violence and corruption are two major issues that Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has vowed to confront. But so far, progress has been minimal.

So, to explain why, The Show turned to a researcher who studies politics, corruption and violence in Mexico. 

David Shirk is a professor of political science and international relations, and director of the Justice in Mexico Program at the University of San Diego.
