Scam warning issued over bogus US Airways emails
An email scam prompted US Airways to issue an alert today. The Tempe-based airline is warning people to look out for fraudulent emails supposedly send by the company. From Phoenix, KJZZ’s Paul Atkinson reports.
The emails have subject headings saying “US Airways reservation confirmation,” “US Airways online check-in comfirmation” or “Please confirm your US Airways online registration.”
The airline says it’s not behind the emails. It posted a scam alert on its website warning that they could be a type of common internet fraud called phishing.
The emails look official and may include a fake confirmation number with a link to a bogus website where people are asked to enter their information that can be stolen. Clicking on attachments can also download malware that steals account information from computers.
US Airways warns not to click on any links or attachments.
