Three years after the earthquake and tsunami in Fukushima, Japan destroyed a nuclear power plant, the effects are still being measured.
ASU reveals designs for Sun Devil Stadium renovations
Sun Devil Stadium dates back to 1958. The facility saw expansion projects in the 1970s and 1980s, but there haven’t been major renovations since the playing field was overhauled in the early 1990s.
The new designs for the stadium include a shade canopy over the field. That would allow the team to play earlier day games and meet Pac-12 network obligations. Stadium capacity will also be reduced by up to 15,000 seats to add leg room and more seats with a back.
The designs have not been finalized, nor has a construction schedule. If the Sun Devils play at a different stadium for one or two seasons, the university says construction will be completed much faster. If they stay, the renovations will take place in up to five stages.
