Governor to have new chief of staff

Eileen Klein, Chief of Staff for Governor Jan Brewer, will be leaving the position to become President of the Arizona Board of Regents.

Klein first joined the Brewer Administration as Budget Director. In late 2009, she became Chief of Staff and was credited with increasing the overall effectiveness of the administration--especially during the state's budget shortfall. Klein was offered the Board of Regents job earlier this month. Governor Brewer is promoting Scott Smith to be her new chief of staff. Smith was Brewer's top legislative lobbyist before becoming her Deputy Chief of Staff, He is also director of the state Department of Administration. The Governor's office says the changes involving Smith and Klein are effective November 9.
