Apollo Group to make major cuts

The Valley-based Apollo Group, which owns the University of Phoenix, will close more than one hundred locations to deal with dropping income.

KJZZ’s Steve Goldstein has more.

In the most recent quarter, Apollo Group’s net income plunged sixty percent to nine hundred ninety-six point five million dollars. In response, the company will close one hundred fifteen University of Phoenix locations—a move that will affect thirteen thousand students. Thirty different states will see campuses or satellite learning centers close. University of Phoenix President Bill Pepicello says students impacted by the closures will have the option of transferring to online programs or moving their coursework to other sites. The University of Phoenix currently has a little more than three hundred twenty-eight thousand students, down from a high point of more than four hundred thousand.
