Governor Jan Brewer criticized comments made by Missouri GOP Senate Candidate Todd Akin about rape, but stopped short of joining other Republican officials in calling for him to drop out of the race. From Phoenix, KJZZ’s Mark Brodie reports.

MARK BRODIE: Akin has apologized for his comments, which he made during an interview on a Missouri TV station. That included his suggestion that a woman’s body can stop itself from getting pregnant in cases of “legitimate rape.” Democrats and Republicans were quick to condemn what Akin said.

JAN BREWER: Well, I thought his comments were a little bit outrageous.

BRODIE: Brewer, though, says the decision on whether Akin should drop out of the race is his. And, she says she doesn’t have an opinion on the decision by the National Republican Senatorial Committee to pull its funding for Akin’s campaign.

BREWER: I’m not in a position to whether it’s right for the party to pull funding, I mean, those people there raise the money, they get to spend it however they wish.

BRODIE: Brewer says whatever Akin decides to do, the voters of Missouri will make their decision on Election Day.
