Arizona residents will vote in a primary election this week, and a few high-profile seats are on the line.

U.S. Senator Jon Kyl is retiring, and sitting Republican Congressman Jeff Flake is trying to take his seat. Flake will have to go through Wil Cardon on primary day before battling former U.S. Surgeon General Richard Carmona in the general election.

Either Ben Quayle or David Schweikert will lose his job in Congress. The freshman Republican representatives are running against each other in District 6 after redrawn boundaries put them in competition.

Former state Senate President Russell Pearce is back on the ballot in Mesa. The sponsor of Arizona’s strictest immigration law is looking to redeem himself against Bob Worsley after voters recalled Pearce from office earlier this year.

Meanwhile, two Democrats battle for the nomination in the race for Maricopa County Sheriff, Paul Penzone and John Rowan. The winner will face Independent Mike Stauffer and Republican Joe Arpaio in November.
