The Census Bureau has just released a survey of the 2010 population count. It showed the census was accurate to 1/100 of 1 percent. That’s about 36,000 people that were overcounted.

The study also showed that African Americans and Latinos were undercounted in the 2010 census. The Census Bureau conducted an extensive media campaign leading up to the 2010 Census aimed at minority groups.

Angelo Falcon is the president of the National Institute for Latino Policy.  He says despite that effort, the Latino population was undercounted by 1.5 percent.

 “Even with these attempts to overcome in very specific way the Latino undercount, it is troubling that despite that effort you still have that differentiation and problem within the Latino community” Falcon said.

 According the Census Bureau survey 775,000 Hispanics were undercounted. Falcon says that could have an impact on funding for federal programs and redistricting efforts.
