Tenor sax man Stan Getz is in a class by himself. His nickname was "the sound" for the beautiful lyrical tone that came out of his horn. He was known as a brilliant improvisor and sightreader. Getz's perfect pitch and supernatural memory made him a shining star in the jazz universe. His solos are still studied and his sound has never been matched. Best known for bringing the bossa nova to the world in the 60s, his career spanned 40 years of bebop and bossa nova. Hear the many sides of Stan Getz tonight on the 9 o'clock Special.
