The Arizona Department of Health Services has issued its first annual report on the state’s medical marijuana program. The department’s director says he’s struck by the small number of doctors who have written a large percentage of the program’s certifications. 

Arizona officials used a bingo-style machine with sets of numbered air-blown balls Tuesday as they picked winners from among more than 400 applicants for certificates to run 97 medical marijuana dispensaries around the state.

More than 22,000 Arizonans have applied for and received permission from the Department of Health Services to use medical marijuana.
