Glendale mental health court aims to send defendants to treatment, not prison

Last month, the city of Glendale opened a new court specially designed for the mentally ill. Advocates say it’s a critical issue; according to an analysis of government data by the Treatment Advocacy Center, mentally ill people in Arizona are nearly ten times more likely to be in the criminal justice system than in hospitals. 

Reports say US Airways, American Airlines boards set to vote for merger

Tempe-based US Airways and bankrupt American Airlines appear ready to merge. Bloomberg News reports the companies’ boards are expected approve the merger Wednesday, after lengthy negotiations. 

Frigid temps blamed for fish deaths

That cold snap a few weeks ago didn’t just kill off tender plants. Thousands of tropical fish in Tempe Town lake also perished.
