Tonight explore the different styles and influences of jazz guitarists Charlie Byrd and Earl Klugh. Byrd jammed with Django Reinhardt, recorded with Woody Herman, and with Stan Getz introduced the Brazilian bossa nova to international audiences. Klugh was inspired by Chet Atkins and his first recording, at age 15, was with Yusef Lateef. He played on George Benson's White Rabbit album and in his touring band. Two different eras. Today we celebrate the birthday of "Brother" Jack McDuff.  Besides being one of the funkiest, most soulful Hammond B-3 players of all time, he was a marvelous bandleader and a solid arranger. In the 60's his band took off when he hired a young George Benson. He also played with Gene Ammons, Red Holloway, Al Grey and Grant Green.  Jazz awakes at 8.
